New Darkness Viddy

So it's true - Girlfriend is the next single.  Spare me.  It's an alright song, but filler.  The video is horrible.  Pure 80's tripe and Flashdance outfits.  The video has a distinct lack of catsuits and spaceships.  It's a dance video, and it looks like there's a double for Justin in some spots.  Even with the high-res it's still a little fuzzy on the 'net so I can't tell for sure.  Dan hides in the background with the rhythm section and is hardly seen.

Perhaps Justin is a little self conscious of his recent weight gain.  I say he looks healthier now with an extra stone or two on him.  That photo's from early Feb this year in Belfast (thanks to Night-train).  He needs a wardrobe reset, but looks much better than the Karen Carpenter bulemia thing he had going on.  Hopefully he's beaten the beast  - it would appear so!.

Back to the main point, I don't feel Girlfriend is strong enough to be a single, even a 4rd single from the album.  English Country Garden would have made a better single; it stands by itself better.  Not that anything is being heard in the Western Hemisphere at this point.  Given the choices between songs like "Knockers" and "Bald" perhaps 'I love my girlfriend' is not such a bad choice.  One has to really see the lyrics to "English Country" before you can appreciate it.  I think Justin's lyric writing abilities are growing a little on that track.  The arrangement... well, -shrug- it's not McCartney,  but it works.  I give the Hawkins boys another two albums and they'll either be at the top of the world or back in Lowestoft selling pints (or dead - no more Moonies please).

Dan will be ok, he's been writing commercial jingles for years now.  Justin...  It's going to be a David Lee Roth thing I fear.  Time to start moving it away from the strip show.

Just my opinion.
