Big Truck Award

So my bio-brother won some sort of big award for his semi-truck driving skills.  Award ceremony will be in either Atlanta or Dallas, he's not sure yet.  Some more award-y stuff to follow, but he doesn't want to get the kids worked up until Sysco can guarantee his prize.

Shoes

Turns out my work shoes are from 2018. Yeah, maybe thats why my feet hurt. Noticed today that all the lines on the bottom - treads, is that only a tyre term? - anyway all the treads have worn away and the bottom of my shoes are essentially smooth. So ordered new ones. We shall see. Right foot is still acting up, maybe the new shoes will help. How much support is left in a four year old pair of shoes? These have to have hundreds of miles on them from walking the hospital floors. Went back to Sketchers. The extra padding makes a difference now that Im old.

Backfill done

Finished the last Christmas bit I wanted to update. Only been kicking around two months or so. But I'm at a loss where to go to next. Got my headspace into pre-fracas time zone and now have to fast forward again to .. whenever the story takes place. It's gone a bit AU as it's taken me so long to write. 2023 at least, which will likely be in the past by the time I'm ready to publish.
5k over the last few weeks is pretty good for me.
I've done porn, and I did backfill, so probably move back to plot. Uuugh, but where?

Rambles after 3 G&Ts

Booked my next trip to a Memphis suburb. Going to see my Aunt and Grandmother, who at 97 or so likely does not have much time left although she is actually in pretty good health, aside from being 97.
I'm 42. My bio-mom died at 47. J died at 51. I might not have much time left either. Sometimes it just hits you harder than others. Today (yesterday) at this point, was the 4 year mark since they found my brain tumor and gave me six months to live.
I can't say I've done a lot of good for the world. Some eyeglasses made and some tours worked, stories lived that will go with me. Carved out my own little world and managed to keep it quiet. Guess that's all one can expect really.
Memphis is too far to run up to Science Hill so that side trip is out. Not sure what's going to happen in Memphis, likely nothing as Grandma isn't mobile. Got some time away from family, booked a stay at a horse farm not far from my Aunt. Love them but can't be around them 24-7. William says he's not going and I'm happy. Need my time.
Google maps says its a ten hour drive. Not bad. If I leave at 4-5 am as I usually do I should be there fairly early. Might just play with the farm pigs and chickens. Miss the rural side of life since I no longer visit the Mominees. I think I'd do ok on a farm now that there's Amazon and Hugheslink. Not that satellite internet is good, but it's something at least. Better than just a phone and that's it.
Need to sleep soon. Have a kidney doctor appointment tomorrow and I'm sure William will want to do something. He is really chilled out on the Delta8 stuff. I like him when he's high. He's not so much of an asshole. Too bad my work doesn't understand that marijuana isn't as bad as alcohol yet. Can have all the alcohol I want, get addicted, trash my liver and ruin my life, but a bit of pot is a fire-able offense. Unfair but I can't change it.
Subrina also gave her two weeks notice. She was the last middle-manager under Kim's leadership. She knew how to do the job and cleaned up all the messes. New manager didn't respect that and lost her as a leader, so work is about to take a real nosedive. New manager will have no one to lean on. I've been there a long time but was never trained or given access to any of the things that need to get done. Looks like shits going to hit the fan soon. Not my problem.
Want to write some, gotten out of the porn and back into a bit of a side detour, but I've had too much to make anything coherent at this point. Maybe tomorrow.

AliExpress wins again

This is great. I just ordered another pair of glasses for $20. As someone who has been moderately myopic for most of my life having a plethora of glasses was never an option. You had one pair and when they broke you were screwed. They were $300, even at the cheap stores. The new ones are knock off Silhouettes - Sorry to Tommy Galla - I love my Silhouettes but I can't buy the real thing at retail. Still beta titanium with the same mounting system. 1.67 aspheric lenses with stock AR? A stock lens sitting in someone's drawer? All day baby. They don't need to be surfaced custom. I sold pairs just like this for years at $400-500. Under $20. Unbelievable.

Mod Pizza

Mod Pizza. Not very impressed. William had a great experience at their Spring Branch location and was raving about it all week, so we finally went to the local and it just was not good. I'd place it a little bit above Little Cesars. Pizza crust was not to my liking. They only do a thin crust, so be it. But the pizza was so dry and flavorless. There were a lot of toppings to choose from, but sadly no list when you ordered so you kind of had to know what they have on the make line before you even get there, which as a first timer wasn't happening. Almost no sauce, very skint on the cheese and a crust I already didn't like. William's pizza was burnt out of the oven. My cook was alright. Ordered a pitcher of beer. It was flat and metallic, like it was an old keg with dirty lines. Didn't even drink half of it. Threw out half of my pizza. Did not even take it home, it was that bad. Came home and had a tuna sandwich. If you come home and have canned tuna and mayo on toast after having supper out less than 20 minutes ago, something has gone majorly wrong. I'm just not into eating out anymore. Corporate has pretty much ruined food.

Joe Rogan

As of now, the musicians asking Spotify to remove their music because of Joe Rogan have one thing in common the news seems to be missing.

They are polio survivors.

The musicians would have killed for a vaccine when they were two and three and five and have suffered lifelong consequences of a virus that is now easily preventable.

Joni's 'unusual' chords? Her left hand and arm is still partially paralyzed seventy (70!) years later. They watched friends get sick and some died. And you wonder why they're against all the anti-vaxx nonsense.

Goodnight Chichester

Finally moving the story out of the little town it had been stuck in. It was a good idea to send them there, but three days of avoiding reality was harder to write than it seemed. Now have to deal with more of the fallout. This week story wise is going to be half the book at this rate. Damn near 300k now.

Tortolini Soup

Made this tonight and it was good. Not eat-it-everyday good but a nice reliable supper option. Would have gone good with some fresh bread but was fine on its own.

CREAMY TORTELLINI SOUP
 yield: 4-6 medium bowls
  total time: 30 MINUTES

INGREDIENTS:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound Italian sausage, casing removed, or cheat and get bulk sausage if you can. The spicier the better.
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium sweet onion, diced
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 cups chicken stock
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (9-ounce) package refrigerated tortellini
Handful of fresh spinach or baby spinach, with most of the stems removed
1/3 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (optional garnish)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat olive oil in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the sausage as it cooks; drain excess fat.
2. Stir in garlic, onion and Italian seasoning. Cook, stirring frequently, until onions have become translucent, about 2-3 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
3. Whisk in flour until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Yes it will be very dry and funky looking. Go with it.
4. Gradually whisk in chicken stock and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced and slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
5. Stir in tortellini; cover and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
6. Stir in kale until wilted, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in heavy cream and basil until heated through, about 1 minute; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Serve immediately.

oncologist

Back to the oncologist tomorrow to get the CT scan results (officially) that I already have. Good news is that in the six months or so without chemo or immunotherapy the tumors haven't grown. Bad news is they haven't gone away either. It's not quite remission - cancer is such a strange thing. It's a wait and see to figure out what the doctor wants to do now. Treat something that's stable to prevent future growth and live with the side effects or hold off on treatment just waiting for the day when it all goes downhill again. No easy or right answers.

Udon Recipe

Udon experiment came out well. They're not super hard to make, most of the recipe was spent explaining how to flatten and fold and flatten and fold, etc. Super simple ingredients that tasted good in a bit of a teriyaki stir fry. Just time consuming letting the gluten relax.

Tattoo who?

Someone is playing a Stones bootleg inside my head and Im not well versed enough on Rolling Stones shows to know which one it is and its annoying as hell! Guessing '83-ish but cant narrow it down much further. 1981? Shit I dont know. Just finish the show up.

Edit - The song is Hang Fire which came out in '81 so it couldn't have been a tour before then.

Scene break

Stopped writing in a very intense spot for me. Wont mean anything to the reader but its very personal and just hard to get out right. Not that anyone else will know whats right or not but it matters to me. And now I have to go drive instead. I just want to write! Or go to sleep. Either. Anything but another day of work.

Hoping the scene will be the same when I get back to it in a few days.

Day trip

Have to run down to NASA tomorrow morning. It's going to suck. Hoping to leave by 9am after traffic slows down and be there by 10:30 or so. Might be back by 17:00. Really don't want to hit afternoon traffic on the way back and not sure how long I can stay up. Woke up at about 15:00 so I should be able to do at least 24 hours fairly safely. If I get a van it will be easier, but a box truck is going to be horrid.

Visit

J came for a visit this morning, which was very nice and sweet. He stayed with me for a bit until I had to get up and start the day. A lot longer than he normally does. Still very brown feeling and I'm not sure what to make of it. I don't even like brown generally but it feels like comfort. At least it doesn't smell of cigarettes anymore. Got sad after he left and was mopey for a bit. William didn't go to work today and he noticed I was sad but I couldn't tell him why. Some things just are not meant to be shared.

Cold front moved through an hour ago or so, dropping us to freezing temperatures. Has given me a headache. One more hour before I can go home.
