May 4th 1970
May. 4th, 2006 11:36 amSo maybe not everyone has May 4th as a day of remembrance anymore. Haven't seen it on the news like it usually is. 36 years is a long time but some of us still remember.
I've been to Kent State. I've seen the bullet holes still in the architecture building and sculptures surrounding it. I've walked the hills and put my feet in the grass and sat on 'that' curb made famous by the John Filo photo.
There's still an odd feeling hanging over that portion of the campus. It's like a cloud. Come out from around the facilities building and it just hits you. Walk over towards Taylor Hall and it changes ever so slightly. And it looks exactly the same. Well, the smokestacks from the VanDeusen Building are gone. Grounds looks exactly the same. Ohio just looks different than it does where I am now.

They still have the drum circles out in front of the main building in the sandstone courtyard. I pray that they're giving it an extra bang today. There's more relevance in all this today than ever before. So many flippin' parallels on so many levels...
