News of the Weird
Jul. 17th, 2007 06:45 amMy morning routine is pretty set. Each day I wake, shower, eat breakfast, and read the news. News of the Weird is one of the places I hit on. This was one of today's stories.
"Unclear on the Concept: After the owner of a wrought-iron business in Brussels, Belgium, abruptly turned away a 53-year-old Nigerian native who had applied for a job, the local labor office declared the owner racist. However, the man said he was just trying to protect the Nigerian from the owner's dog. "My dog is racist," he said. "Not me." [Reuters, 6-9-07]"
Which in my world, isn't all so weird. Bob is a racist. He hates African Americans. Even seeing one walking down the street he growls and froths and tries to attack. The time we had him down at the Dykeshed he launched himself at the bartender who was coming on shift. Great guy, just black. We had to leave 'cos Bob wanted to shread him and we couldn't quiet him down.
Bob was severely abused as a puppy, most likely by the crack niggers that inhabited the ghetto area of Greensboro where we used to live. If anyone doubts for a second that animal's don't remember or can't discern things for themselves I'd like them to meet Bob. He's the sweetest dog until he happens to see somone with African roots.
So the shop owner is not as 'unclear on the concept' as Reuters makes him out to be. His dog very well might be racist and he's well within his rights to protect people from his animal.
