Walk of Life
Dec. 4th, 2007 12:03 amHave just come back from the store. Ordinarilly this is no major deal. But normally I have a car and it's not a blizzard outside.
Left the car at work, as the city had closed down the hill again due to the number of accidents. So that was all fine, but then I was supposed to stop on the way home and get beer. William had three left. After drinking those three with supper, he starts prodding that I should walk down to the store.
Again, not normally a problem, but:
1. It's dark, pitch black by now.
2. Temperature has sunken to about 18F (-8C)
3. Winds are gusting at about 40mph (64kph)
4. My path leads me directly north head into the prevailing winds
5. I'd just gotten undressed and relaxed after working all day
6. I don't own winter boots or wellies
7. White shite is still falling from the sky.
So I went, with my thermals and wool fleece cardigan, scarf, hat, gloves, feet wrapped in plastic bags in my trainers, and my backpack underneath my parka down to the store.
For a 12 pack of beer.
So *not* a happy camper.
