Down with Redmond!
Dec. 13th, 2007 08:08 pmHad to drive to Pulaski today to give some grumpy man his glasses. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Rather enjoyed the two hours by myself in the middle of the day. Roads were bad, but not bad enough where I wasn't safe. Maybe it's the new tyres, but the car has always been good in the elements and today it was just rocking over the little ice/snow mix on the roads. Seemed to go anywhere.
Now I'm still bunking with the terminal stuff, figuring out exactly what the hell I've turned my computer into. It's not Windows, certainly, but it's like learning a new language in many respects. The old computer geek is coming back out. :D Too bad Protools and Acid and all my other big important programs won't port over, I'm stuck with Redmond for them. Ah well, it's the price of business.
Had to run this little script just to enable the .mp3 codec. But now I can listen to tunes finally!
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-pitfdll gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gxine libxine-main1 libxine-extracodecs ogle ogle-gui
What a pain in the nads. I only understand about half of it, so there's lots of room to grow.
Other news: Guess who's having troubles with his midi pedals? It worked before the last tour, certainly you and half a dozen techs can figure this out. What did you do to it anyway? It's grown to be your sound unfortunately, and it will be missed if you try to do any arena shows without them. Geddy Lee has a similar setup, I'd recommend contacting his tech, Russ Ryan. Just don't go with the line of dryer's in the amp line. That 'warm, dry sound' is a bit misleading. Key Words - Kitty Hawk. Can't beat 'em. You can knock the two Palmer's right out of there, but it's a decent enough set up.
Did I mention Taurus?
Right, off to code.
