Well, now it's done. Coleman's has closed suddenly. Peter said it was because the restaurant wasn't making enough in the winter to keep the doors open. It's sad. They had the best french onion soup in the planet, better than even some 5 star joints. No more walking out the back door of the office and having a black and tan for lunch in what passed for a rather well-to-do pub in Ireland. Even when it was Cahill's Fish Monger it just had that Irish jibe, you know? Sea air, alcohol, peat bogs, and some sort of unshakable warmth that ran through the place.

Dammit, that sucks. They actually would have and actually provided people with vinegar for fries. Never once had to ask for vinegar, and it was malt vinegar too, not just white vinegar from the kitchen. Can't get a shepard's pie anywhere else in town.
Am feeling much improved. I can actually talk now, and was able to keep up with the scratch tracks as I drove around town today. Still a bit croaky and cough prone, but miles better from yesterday even. Bad thing is I think William's caught it. Might just be a bad tooth again, he's not the most chatty when he's in pain.
Opie got stuck in the driveway this afternoon. I should say more properly at the end of the drive, actually on the treelawn. Damn fool stopped at the end of the driveway and slid down the hill across the sidewalk. Got his car impailed in a snowbank and caught on the dirtmound from the city ploughs and stuck on the high curb there. Took a tow truck to pull him out. Damn fool had woken up still drunk and decided to come get his car (no snow tyres, no chains, nothing) and it was a good part of two hours while the guys tried to dig and push the car out. I only saw the middle bit when I came home from lunch. William has to find some more intelligent people to hang out with. The solution to impailing your car 'cos your drunk is *NOT* to ask if I have any Jim Beam. Or crack a beer. Opie was drinking a beer as the tow truck pulled him out. Lovely. So glad I had the work excuse thing to go back to. Lord knows why other people find my house so attractive. Society's detritus always seems to end up here. Is there anyone else in this town who likes a nice cab sauv and bree with a bit of NPR to listen to? I find I am very tired of the Milwaukee's Worst and Nascar crowds. I have little tolerance these days in my own home.
Going back to reading for about an hour, then going to attempt to sleep again. Want to print out a story that I've found, it's really good and worth keeping. Don't know when I'll be able to steal the printer at work for half an hour. I am not using my own toner at an preventative rate when I can liberate some from the boss.
It has been a rather odd day, all in all.
