Feb. 11th, 2009 09:31 pmToday's hot topic - the Ticketbastard and LiveNation merger. Doubtful it will actually occur, as in such it will create the largest monopoly I've ever had personal experience with. That includes the old Bell system (phones, back when there were all on wires). The combined companies would have a value of $2.5 Billion, placing under one roof some of the biggest venues, most sheds, the dominant ticket selling company, a promotional behemoth, and artist management. They claim it will result in $40 million in saving by reducing redundancy, but everyone wants to know if that savings will trickle down to event pricing (unlikely), or simply allow a monopoly of pricing. As music sales decrease in revenue as a percentage of profit compared to concert income, this is proof of the ever-more significant truth we all know: artists used to tour to promote records; now they produce records in order to have a product to focus a tour.
It's a sad world we live in.
Sound Nerdage:
Have a new way to test for phase shifting in some of the newer arrays thanks to Ratso. It's not practical for me to test at home, as I don't have a K1 lying around, but I'll have to think about it and try it out next time I get a good system to play with. I could probably hear the 1 millisecond, but I don't know how much that would really affect the consistency of coverage. I don't think the last arrays I played with had too much frequency shading going on. They sounded pretty straight up. It's worth a try.
