Diabeetus

Well, have had some medical drama lately. William got dizzy on Friday, like really not able to walk dizzy. Finally got into the doctor yesterday (I did a neuro eval on Friday and I knew it wasn't a stroke). Turns out his sugar was over 500 and the only symptom he had was dizziness. His A1C is through the roof (12.5) so he's definitely diabetic. Strange there were no earlier symptoms, with the A1C that high he's been diabetic for a while. Runs bad in his family so it's not really a surprise. Dad had it, grandparents on both sides (maternal grandmother was really really bad). Immediately on the list is cutting out beer and soda. His glucose went down to 274 just by stopping the junk sugar. Doctor is waiting until next Tuesday to see what to do next. We've got a meter and if it's still really high he's going direct to insulin which is what his Maternal Grandmother had. The Syrell version is generally better (like any diabetes is good) but even grandpa was on oral medication for 20 years and was well controlled. MGM, however.... 8-10 units three times a day and her sugar was always still out of control. Bad pancreas.

So in addition to shitty genetics William also likes Beer, Bread, Soda, Little Debbie snack cakes, and pasta. He eats other stuff too, but he is so picky. Canned spaghetti O's and Campbell's chicken noodle soup are not great. Nor is frozen pizza. What he needs is bananas, oatmeal, greens, vegetables, lean protein, eggs... Nope nope nope nope. He'll eat a banana once in a while, but fish? Nope. Eggs? Absolutely not. This is going to be tricky and an uphill fight. Hopefully when he gets medicated he can eat more normally but for now I fed him a green salad with some carrots, tomatoes, celery, mushrooms... And he ate half of it before digging into a packet of crackers. I don't think he gets the starch/carbs thing. He does as a cook, but he doesn't get it for putting things in his mouth. Gonna take a while to change habits.

He really need some medications, not sure why the doctor is waiting.
