Fic is done! Is it perfect? No. Is it what I wanted to write? No. The characters took me on a ride even I didn't expect, no matter how much I prodded them. Sitting at 4593 words and damn near three weeks of work to crank it out. Still needs a major edit then I'll send it over for the Fest. Not even any major porn. Just a little. And a lot of alcohol. What a strange fic. But I managed to sneak bits of all three prompts in. I know we only had to do one but why not overdo it?
The RockFic one? Meh. The Leather Daddy thing just wasn't doing it for me and I can't really find a prompt I can get behind this year. Now that the fic I committed to is done I might be able to whip up something quick in a familiar fandom, but I'm not going outside my comfort zone this late in the season.
Finally sat down to watch Seamen last night. Had three gin & tonics while watching so it felt real. Would be nice to watch it in higher resolution, but the copy I got was a smaller <2 gig file. Nice for saving and sending, but not as nice for watching as the 9gig encodes. It was... alright. Was it as good as Buffoon’s Vacation, Mongolia, or Venezuela? No. There were a few rough spots that felt kinda of jerky. I did like the sudden drop in history lessons but that’s it. They were just dropped in and didn’t really fit as smoothly as they could. Granted, I didn’t write it and writing for filming is a horrid job. Apparently their normal script super buggered off. Not sure what happened there but he is missed.
It might grow on me. Mongolia took a while to grow on me. I'm not a car fan who happens to watch TGT, I'm in it for the trio interacting and while there were a few moments shining through it's hard to get that three way interplay on CB radio when there's only two people.
I know James almost died and Hammond got really sick. Not a word was mentioned. Radios were thrown into the sea and there were bad tempers all around. Some parts probably weren't filmed - James near death for example - because of the conditions of the storm. They just weren't filmable. There was no plot tho. No 'photo the hippos for an Amazon screensaver'. No 'build a car and get out alive". And you could tell. Yes, start with the idea of going down the Mekong, but why? It's missing that arch of delivering a truffle or winning a sports ticket. Who has a guess as to why they're having sudden, basic issues? Is it spending all their time on the production company? Amazon sticking the boot in and making calls even the BBC didn't dare to make? I doubt Clarkson is out of ideas, he says he has a few years left in him, but as a writer you know not every idea is good no matter how much it bounces around your brain.
So... Diego Garcia. Obviously it's in the can. Hope post doesn't take a year. Hope they got some sort of purpose written into the script. With the tank treds on Richard's Ford it looks like there should be some sort of story.
