Weather sucks
Feb. 14th, 2021 04:35 amWeather here is spectacularly shitty. Like once a century shitty. If I was still in NY it would just be a Monday, but nothing down here is build for a thorough freeze. There's no sanders, gritters, or snowplows. Nobody has snow shovels or winter tyres. The plumbing runs on outside walls and is likely to freeze in the walls. Everything is built on a slab because there is no frost line.
Today it's not bad. Went out and did the outside prep, bundled up the exposed piping and spigots and emptied the pool lines. Stocked up on groceries and blocked off the window AC units. That was all fine. Got my plants covered. Car is full of petrol.
Looking like I'm going to be mandated at the hospital for at least two, maybe three or four days. They're mostly worried about the roads freezing. I can drive on it no problem, zipped around the first thirty years of my life in snow and blizzards and whiteouts. But there are so many idiots down here who can't even drive properly on a warm, sunny day. It's not me, its the other people on the road who will cause problems. If everyone does what they're told and stays home, great. Us 'uber essential' people can come and go along with the ambulances and fire trucks and what not, but people are morons. The 'he he he I wanted to do donuts on the ice' type.
So 2-4 days. No food. No support. No supplies. At least we have warning. All the nurses are bringing in roasts and chickens and slow cookers. I've got an air mattress and the building has a generator in case the power goes out. I just don't want to be stuck here, at work, for four days.
Going home in a few hours for some last minute packing and some sleep, knowing that I won't be home again for a while. Have to get William his own food supply and medicines sorted out, plus do as much as I can for the dog. I wouldn't mind a four day vacation to Bali or a luxury resort, but it's an emergency room. I don't want to be sleeping in the vagina room, or the trauma bay or by the oxygen tanks. I want to be home in my fuzzy pajamas baking cakes.
