Glasses on order
Jun. 13th, 2021 03:18 amDoing better. Turns out my kidney function is so shit it wasn't processing the metformin and with the steroid on top of that no wonder the blood sugar went high. So new med for blood sugar and stopped the steroid. Chest scan on Tuesday and go from there.
Ordered new glasses just now. Blue. Like Blue Blue. Didn't realize it but the old Children's Telly Presenter blue. Oops. Just won't tell anyone it was subconscious. Getting them shipped in from China because the American Market has gone berserk. Retail for what I just bought would be upwards of $500 US. I got them for $30. Nice frame, hi index 1.6 lenses, and a basic stock AR coat. I've worked in optical for many years as it was my previous career. J worked in optical for years as well (him in surfacing and edging, me in edging and dispensing). That shit should not cost $500 for a $25 frame and stock lenses of wholesale $25 or so. I don't know how Americans can buy glasses in a local store anymore. So I did the American Capitalist thing and took my business to China. I've been buying there for years now and the quality is fine and the Rx is exactly what I tell them to make, so... As long as the product meets ANSI standards (they do) there's little reason not to buy foreign.
Even if I don't like them I can get more in a few months. No big deal when they're actually affordable. Wish the internet was out there when I was a kid. Wouldn't have had to wear broken glasses and could have just gotten new ones.
So if you're similarly budget minded and do not want to pay the American (or European) price listed, hop on over to Ali Express. My fave stores are Gmei and Honleissi (but Hon seems to be stocking less these days).
Also ordered some more contacts. Haven't tried shopping foreign for those. There is competition here that keeps the prices reasonable. After all it's just boxes on a shelf that anyone can stock and sell. Nothing custom. So the price is reasonable.
