Sometimes, the best memories are the ones from when you were alone. I used to watch MTV a lot when my family first got it. A lot of Bangles, Bananarama Duran Duran, and Dire Straits. Eddie Grant. Various others that I can't recall right now. Buggles. Pretenders. Clash. When MTV actually played music.

Have been surfing YouTube, poking around and just wasting time. Found some old videos, stuff that for me was part of my awakening - when I stopped listening to The Muppets and turned onto real music. Music heals all, as it were. It's my escape.

They say smell is the sense most tied to memory, but I think it's hearing. It is for me anyway. I had no idea who they were at the time, no idea what was going on with them or what was about to happen. I just remember this great rhythm and striking video and a drummer playing without shoes. They could have been a one hit wonder for all I knew. Didn't know and didn't care - it's amazing what a seven year old fails to notice.

It looks sadly dated now, but the music still moves me. Brought back a wash of things; sugar coated cereal drenched with whole milk, the wale of those purple courderoy pants I always wore, sunlight coming in through the back window and disrupting the image on the telly screen. Didn't think much about the guys in the video, it was just a powerful video and I remember liking it. Probably could have gone the rest of my life without finding it again.

So, figuring that if I remembered that video, more from the same album would probably come up as well.

What I found damn near about stole my breath.
