Subject: Action Required: COVID-19 Vaccine Registration
Hello,
As you may know, tonight the Food and Drug Administration issued emergency use authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. We are pleased to share that registration for the vaccine is now open for Phase 1 employees and physicians. In line with guidance from state officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you are receiving this email because you have been identified as an individual who meets the criteria for Phase 1.
Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine is optional for Memorial Hermann employees and physicians. However, registration is still required whether you plan to receive the vaccine or not. This helps us track our allocation as we progress through Phase 1.
If you choose to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, here are a few important things to keep in mind:
After completing registration, you will be able to self-schedule your vaccination appointment. Employees should consult with their manager prior to scheduling an appointment during work hours.
Be sure to have a government-issued photo ID and your Memorial Hermann ID badge with you at the time of vaccination. The government-issued ID is necessary to confirm both your first and last name since our ID badges display our first name only.
Due to the vaccine’s stringent storage and administration requirements, it is important that you do not miss your scheduled appointment and that you arrive on time to prevent unnecessary waste of the vaccine.
Please allow up to 30 minutes for the vaccination process. In accordance with CDC best practices, you will be asked to wait 15 minutes after vaccination to be monitored for any possible adverse reactions before returning to your unit or department.
After being vaccinated, you will still be required to wear a mask and the appropriate PPE for your role, and follow Memorial Hermann’s infection control precautions.
The COVID-19 vaccine you will receive requires two doses to ensure full protection. After receiving your first dose, you will be asked to schedule your second dose according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. As an example, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine requires the second dose to be administered approximately 21 days after the first dose.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have any underlying medical conditions and have questions regarding whether or not the COVID-19 vaccination is appropriate for you, please consult your healthcare provider.
In the unlikely event delivery of the vaccine is delayed, impacted vaccination appointments will be rescheduled, as necessary.
Please note, you must be logged in to the Memorial Hermann network to access the registration tool. Once logged in to the network, click here to complete your COVID-19 vaccine registration. For information about the COVID-19 vaccine, you can review the FDA’s vaccine fact sheet or visit the COVID-19 Vaccine Resources page on OneSource.
As always, thank you for your hard work and continued commitment to our patients and each other.
To ensure we have enough allocation to vaccinate all individuals within Phase 1, we ask that you do not share this link with other colleagues.
So I'm signed up. Haven't talked to William about it as he's not eligible for one yet, but I don't think he'll take it. He's fallen into the YouTube conspiracy hole and is already anti flu-shot, so getting him to be ok with the COVID shot would be difficult. Won't get it until Wednesday the 16th and things might fuck up by then, but for now I'm in line and they've set aside two doses for me.
