This is a rant about what I hate.
There's a nurse at work (used to be, more on that later). We'll call him Lyle* so he has a handle. Lyle was cocky and arrogant, but a decent enough nurse so the got through many years of ER service without incident.
As Lyle got older his back started to hurt. Par for the course. Lyle was also tired of working but was to young to retire, so he played the back pain/disability game without much success. HR put him on light duty and there are not many light duty nursing jobs out there. So Covid hits and Lyle is still on his bullshit. They put him as a pre-surgical Covid swabber. People drive up before their surgery and get tested for Covid. It's great. Lyle doesn't believe in Covid anyway and can just swab a few people and get paid his senior nursing rate.
Lyle doesn't get the covid vax when he's offered. His wife does. Thinks Covid is a joke and a conspiracy.
Little surprise, with the constant exposure and mask refusal and also refusing the vax he caught Covid. Three weeks in ICU and almost on a ventilator. Wife didn't get it, but also couldn't go to see him as he was in isolation.
Lung damage. Permanently on 2L of oxygen at all times. Carries his cylinders with him on a little wheely cart. Headaches. Memory problems. True disability. Looks like absolute shite.
I was so tempted to get in his face and ask him how his 'disability' was when he was faking it, now that he knows what real disability is. Fuckers like him ruin it for those of us who are really disabled. He thought he was disabled before - welcome motherf**ker to the club. Don't you wish you only thought you were disabled. It's not a tag you want on yourself.
